Each January marks the start of the calendar year, but not the astronomical year, yet 2026 is likely to be one of the most powerful possible. We have no fewer than four Cazimis, when planets are exactly in unison with the Sun, alongside a series of potent conjunctions across two zodiac signs. These could see very major shifts and changes unfold for us all, and on the world stage too.
And as we enter this new dawn, although the Sun, Mars and Venus are closely collaborating, Mercury – despite joining them in Capricorn later on the 1st – initially clashes bitterly with the ruler of the sign, Saturn, as well as the dreamy Neptune. A great deal of additional information will come into the public domain that has previously been hidden.
Chiron ends its five-month retrograde on the 2nd, and there is a potent Cancer Full Moon on the 3rd, followed by a Capricorn New Moon on the 18th – the fourth successive one at 28 degrees.
Yet with the Sun, Venus and Mars so closely tethered together through the first three weeks, worldly interactions can very much come to the fore. More traditional or conservative energies may be manifested, with goals sharpened and significant breakthroughs possible for some. However, the last ten days of January have their own celestial Back to the Future, as the idealism of Aquarius stages a major pushback, and some positive news for humankind – and truth-seekers – can surface.
Aries 21 March – 20 April
Your ambitions are powered up early in the month, Aries, but whatever goal or aspiration you have needs to feel right, as well as offer practical opportunities. An important meeting or connection from the 17th’s New Moon can help you to take a big step forward, but as the month develops, your contacts and friendships come more sharply into focus. Single? You may meet someone through a shared interest, hobby or social event. However, these Aquarius month-end energies also prompt you to connect with what inspires you, as much as with the material plane.
Taurus 21 April – 21 May
Change is in the celestial air, Taurus, but just what you decide to engage with will be unique to you. Some Bulls could be drawn to an exciting travel plan, others to higher education or even a change of residency. However, the most strongly felt pull for change may be around how you connect to the wider world. This could be through work or your own business, but everyone’s ambitions are unique. For some, it may be spending more time on hobbies, local voluntary roles or the needs of grandchildren. Freshening things up can certainly appeal.
Gemini 22 May – 21 June
Some powerful transformations are in the cosmic works. Where you are most invested, financially, romantically or spiritually, needs to feel reciprocated and where it is not can give you food for thought. You could find yourself becoming more involved or deciding to cut ties and fly freer, and this will become more obvious from the 20th. A brilliant idea of yours can really sparkle on the 21st with the Mercury Cazimi, a time when you may feel more spontaneous, independent-minded and even daring.
Cancer 22 June – 23 July
Whether you are in a close personal relationship or not, your connections to others are very much to the fore at the start of the month. If you met someone you really liked over the festivities, things can begin to shape up positively from the New Moon on the 18th of January. Equally, you may find yourself using a blend of diplomacy and assertion in ongoing connections, particularly from the Full Moon in your sign on the 3rd. Your long-term or shared finances engage you at the end of the month – or will it be someone you find hard to resist?
Leo 24 July – 23 August
Many people set themselves New Year’s resolutions at the start of each year, but how often do we stick to them? You may find yourself determined this January to make changes around diet, exercise, fitness and daily routines. Small changes across several areas can actually make a big difference to your wellbeing. However, the month will not be all about being virtuous and from the 17th your relationship sector sparkles with possibilities. If you are single, this can be a year when you connect with someone very special or disconnect from someone who is not.
Virgo 24 August – 23 September
You may feel particularly upbeat early in the month, Virgo, even spoilt for choice. You are rightly determined to express your talents more fully and enjoy whatever you are doing to the maximum. However, Pluto and Uranus have been nudging you recently to think about your work or daily routines that may be well established. If any of these have lost their lustre, this year can see you moving towards a reset. Although it may seem a little daunting, a change can actually be the perfect way to showcase your unique talents.
Libra 24 September – 23 October
It may be early in the year, but you could feel keen to make decorative changes, get maintenance work done at home or, for some Scales, even consider moving altogether. Feeling as comfortable as possible in your surroundings will be a big driver. From the 17th, when your lovely ruler glides into the most charismatic part of your chart, a surge of outgoing and playful energy pours into your situation. Your focus can become more creative, social and interactive. Late January can bring some truly magical developments.
Scorpio 24 October – 22 November
Your ideas sector is bubbling with vim and vigour, Scorpio, and you can be both passionate and persuasive. Someone may find you irresistible and if you are chatting online, a spark is very much possible. However, from the Full Moon on the 3rd, it will be important not to become too frustrated if not everyone understands where you are coming from. Later in the month, a subtle but powerful shift around home, family and emotional matters, which has been evolving recently, is amplified. If something needs to change, you can drive this.
Sagittarius 23 November – 21 December
The January sales may be hard to resist, Sagittarius, or joint finances may need discussion if one of you has a different approach to managing the budget. However, if you can treat yourself, this month could turn out better financially than you might have imagined, even if income has been tight of late. As the month progresses, a sense of genuine excitement can begin to take hold. The last couple of years may have brought challenges around home, family, property or emotional matters, but the burden is set to lift and brighter times approach.
Capricorn 22 December – 20 January
Your gift is one of patient application, so why change what has worked so well for so long?
